The "Once in a Lifetime" 1,152 To 1 Scenario Negatively Impacting People Everywhere, Everyday!
"Once in a Lifetime" is in quotes because while the scenario that sparked this post was one in a lifetime for the author, as well as others involved, essentially some version of the same scenario plays out with people everywhere, everyday.
People everywhere, everyday because this involves a utility-class service that people everywhere use on a daily basis.
1,152:1 is a ratio that per proper mathematical norms has been simplified down to its simplest form.
However, the actual amount of time (the amount of laziness) was 5 seconds, so that would be more properly expressed as 5,760:5 , as illustrated below, even though the ratio remains the same:

To figure out what that cost you in your time we multiply by the ratio.
In this instance every 5 seconds of someone else's laziness cost others 5,760 seconds of their time!
Multiply 5,760 x 5 and you get 28,800 seconds.
Divide 28,800 seconds by 3,600 (the number of seconds in an hour) and you get 8 hours!
One Person's 5 Seconds of Laziness Cost Three Other People 8 Hours of Their Time!
Worse, aside from the enormous inconvenience of having to take so much time out of one's day due to no other reason that one person's laziness, it almost lead to the involvement of other individuals and organizations, and their time and resources, and could have even lead to a potentially life-altering or ending series of events for one or more individuals.
Fortunately, thanks to the kind and conscientious efforts of a child (a young person) who acted in a manner the polar opposite of lazy, and adults who, unlike in the fictional case of Marvin, illustrated here, appreciated and paid attention to the actions of the young person, the incident that sparked this post it did not continue its onward progression of involving yet more people, and organizations, and/or consequences that could have had life-altering or ending effects on others. After 8 hours the effects of one person's 5 seconds of laziness had finally finished running its course of negatively affecting others.
Whether in your case this scenario cost you 8 hours, or 18 minutes or 80, there is no excuse for it
What's most unfortunate about this is the degree to which it is tolerated. Because while the one specific incident described above may be somewhat unique, and while it may not always cost multiple people hours of their time, it is still a scenario that plays out to some degree, in some shape, form, or fashion, almost everywhere almost everyday.
Among the most pervasive problems society imposes upon itself is the routine apathy toward and acceptance of that which should be unacceptable.
It's likely that even if customers of the utility-class service referenced above reach out to their provider that little will come of it and little will be done about it. In short, it's unlikely to change, unless more people choose to favor individuals and organizations who live and operate by a higher standard, which is what this initiative, Almost Everything, is about.
Whether 1:100 or 1,152:1 You Are Being Impacted Everyday. Are You OK With That?
The founding, anchor post, "Almost Everything You NEED Can Be Learned As a Child, Almost Everything Adults SHOULD BE Most Never Are. Do you have everything you need?" , points out that:
As few as 1 in 100 people pay attention to important and even urgent information even if it's coming from someone they like and/or look up to, if the alternative is something humorous, silly, and not important at all.
And as if that wasn't or isn't enough motivation for you to want something better the 1,152:1 example on this page should be.
But as long as enough people continue accepting the above kinds of behaviors (and/or related services) as being acceptable or OK, it will continue to be the norm.
Whenever and wherever possible and/or appropriate posts and articles on this site provide one or more citations or references, or make it known they are available upon request.
Eventually the full details about the above incident will be added here. But this is one of the few articles likely to posted where there will be a delay, in consideration of the privacy of the affected individuals, even though the actual service providers need no such consideration.
The information within the founding, anchor post, "Almost Everything You NEED Can Be Learned As a Child, Almost Everything Adults SHOULD BE Most Never Are. Do you have everything you need?" , as well as the "Info For Founding Members" post, is already sufficient should readers desire to avail themselves of better options. Nonetheless, the next upcoming post will make yet another attempt at getting the point across.
